How do I register?
We use Ultracamp online registration. Click here.   Have a question?  Feel free to email Heidi at heidi@sunstarfarmpreschool.com.

What will my child learn and do?
We believe that play is the “work” of childhood and as such, we strive to introduce learning in an imaginative and explorative way.  Children will interact with our animals each day and the focus will be on communicating with and respecting the animals.  We have a gorgeous, enchanted, forest with a beautiful creek for exploring.  There are picnic tables and a large play structure in this lovely shaded area.  There are so many activities to choose from on a daily basis: arts and crafts, story time, archery, fishing, treasure hunts, baking, fort building - you name it.  If your child loves nature and the outdoors, then this camp is for them.

My child is on the cusp of the age group - can they be with their sibling?
We will try to accommodate having siblings be in the same group if that is what they want.  We do try to group the children by ages, so that our youngest campers are not overrun by bigger children.

What time can I drop off my child?
Camp hours are 8:30am-3:00pm.  Drop off is at 8:30am.  Early Drop off starts at 8:00am and is available to add-on at check out.

Pick up is at 3:00pm, yet after care is available until 5:30pm for an additional fee at check out.

What should my child bring?
Please keep in mind that your children will be outdoors for most of the day. Please label everything, otherwise it ends up in the lost and found or may accidentally go home with another camper.

  • Comfortable clothing that can get very dirty. (no dark colored shirts - too hot!)
  • Refillable water bottle clearly marked with your child's name.
  • Sun Star Farm is a working farm.  Rain boots are essential even for non-rainy weeks.  They allow us to explore in all of the woods, creek, farm animal areas.
  • Water shoes for creek exploring is a good alternative to boots.
  • A hat with a wide brim
  • Sunscreen, not aerosol
  • Extra set of clothes
  • A healthy packed lunch - kids are often very hungry at camp.  NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS.
  • Morning snack and afternoon snack (We burn LOTS of calories)  NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS.

What is your staff ratio?
6:1 camper to counselor ratio or better!

Who are the counselors?
Our summer camp counselors are energetic, enthusiastic, fun-loving educators and college students who adore children, farm animals and nature.  We have returning staff year after year and many of our counselors feel like family.  Heidi Watkins, the owner of the farm preschool and camp, is on the farm at all times and has her finger on the pulse of all that goes on at Sun Star Farm.

Can parents participate and see what campers are doing?
We offer private farm visits and birthdays for families.  We update candid pics of campers on our Facebook page at the end of the week.

Are there discounts?
Yes!  Multi-week and multi-sibling discounts are automatically applied at the time of check out when you use the Ultracamp registration system.

Is there a payment plan available?
Yes, you can select the payment plan during checkout.  A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to register, then the balance is split into equal monthly payments to be paid on the 15th day of each month (12/15, 1/15, 2/15, 3/15, 4/15). Final balance due May 15.
PLEASE NOTE: your first installment will be charged on the 15th day of the month that you register, i.e. if you register between the 1st-14th day of month, you may get charged just days after paying your deposit at registration.  (Sorry, there isn't a different way to handle on ultracamp.)

A class I want to sign up for is full, what should I do?
If something is full, please join the wait-list if you want to go.  You can sign up for more than one week.  You will be emailed once a spot opens for you.  Please register within 24 hours or the open spot automatically goes to the next on the waitlist.

Can you accommodate children with special needs?
We love to be as accommodating as possible and would love to hear from you about what kind of care your child may need at camp, unfortunately we are not set up to provide one-on-one care for any campers with special needs.  However, we have had campers come with aids and that has worked out beautifully.  Our counselors are experienced, extremely kind and helpful and will and go out of their way to make sure that each camper has an exceptional experience.  We love showing children that all are welcome and loved here at Sun Star Farm.  Please feel free to contact us if you'd like more information or have specific questions.

What is your behavior policy?
We strive to provide the highest quality experience for your children and want every camper to feel safe and happy.    On the first morning of camp we teach the "golden rule."  We have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for any form of bullying, verbal or physically, or inappropriate language or content.  Never hesitate to call if you have a concern.  Campers are required to follow rules and cooperate with staff to ensure a positive and safe environment for all.  We will always try to address any adverse behavior with kind and clear boundaries first, and if that doesn’t then work a phone call to the parent usually does the trick.  However, if a child continues to behave in an inappropriate way we will have to ask that they be removed from camp.  We reserve the right to immediately dismiss a camper without refund if a phone call home doesn't resolve the issue, including cancelling future summer camp weeks.

What is your transfer, cancellation, non-attendance, and refund policy?

When you register your child, you are reserving space, time, staffing, and prepaid expenses whether or not your child attends the program.  Our detailed cancellation and refund policy is here and you are required to sign our waiver and policies agreements to complete your registration.  Please let us know if you have any questions, prior to registering.

My child has a medical condition that may require medication, how do you handle this?

IF YOUR CHILD HAS an EPI-PEN, INHALER, OR ANY PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS THAT MAY NEED TO BE ADMINISTERED AT CAMP, please fill out the medical action form at this link and email to us prior to the first day of camp: https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/Portals/0/documents/pdf/M/Medical_Action_Plan-General.pdf

What are the Covid-19 procedures?
There are no longer special Covid procedures as the pandemic is now over.  Finally.  However, we clean and sanitize throughout the day and do lots and lots of hand washing!
